Kursk

In August 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine invaded the Kursk region. Kursk became a rear support hub; residents from border areas were evacuated there, aid centers were opened, and humanitarian supplies were collected. By the summer of 2025, the main hostilities had shifted away. Now, in June 2026, the region remains under Russian control but stays a frontline zone, subject to regular drone attacks and shelling of border villages, resulting in casualties and damage. Demining and reconstruction efforts are underway, yet tensions persist. Sirens sound in Kursk several times a day.

Tuapse

In April 2026, a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery in Tuapse sparked a fire that took several days to extinguish. Following the blaze, an “oil rain” fell; residential areas were coated in an oily film and black droplets. Authorities acknowledged that concentrations of harmful substances in the city had exceeded safe limits and urged residents to limit their time outdoors. 

Animals were also affected, and volunteers from across the country are providing daily assistance. Environmental experts warn that the aftermath of the attack could result in the largest environmental disaster in the Krasnodar Territory.
